Customizing Lists on Project Sites
Project Sites are a great way to collaborate on projects and each of these sites can be configured to have the same values available when a new project is created. You may want to add new, custom columns in addition to the out of the box columns that are currently available for your risks and issues lists. These fields will be completed during the creation and management of Risks or Issues.
For example, let’s say you want to add a column called “Business Unit” for the risks list. Navigate to the Risks tab on the left-hand side of the Project Site:

Next, click on the List Tab at the top of the page and then find the settings box where you will see List Settings.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see the out of the box columns that are available. WARNING: Do not rename or delete any of these out of the box columns as doing so will break the publishing feature. Instead, create an entirely new column with the name and type of column that you need. To do this you will need to go to the hyperlink towards the bottom entitled “Create Column”.

Enter the name of your new column “Business Unit” and pick choice for the type of information. Once you select ‘choice’, you will see the option to fill in the choices. You can now click OK and see that it has been added to the list of columns.

If you do change a column name or any information associated with it and then create that site as a template, you will not be able to publish for ANY projects with the attached site template. It will show in your queue as “processing”as shown below.

One last thing to note is that any of these custom fields/columns that are created cannot be pulled into the Power BI reports.
